An Interview with new member Olivia Moroney

We would like to welcome new member Olivia Moroney to Inka Gallery. Olivia has only been with Inka since the beginning of December 2011 and already she has thrown herself into all aspects of helping out in the gallery!

Why not pop down to see her quirky drawings in graphite and charcoal on display on the shelves!

What made you choose to become a member of Inka Gallery?

As I am currently studying at UTAS Art school. In my second year. I felt it was a good way to be able to sell some of my work and to gain knowledge in the commercial side of the art world.

What is your background and how did you get started?
I studied in Hobart and always had an interest for art from an early age. At school, I really started to understand what art was really about and I slowly started to love it more and more. I began first with looking at painting and drawings. I also gained knowledge from my mother and also my secondary school art teacher who had a great knowledge of art history. She later was my Year 12 teacher for Art Appreciation.

Which other artists and areas of life inspire your artwork?

I think for me everyday life is inspiring to my work and is the basis for my image making. I have always loved scenes of the everyday and how artists represent this through their work.

What is your favourite subject matter and medium?
My favourite subject would be different objects and collected objects. I love using charcoals and graphite, I also like to use gouache in my works for colour as well.

Do you have other creative talents besides producing artworks?
No. None really. It’s art for me.

What do you hope to gain by being a part of Inka Gallery?
I hope to gain knowledge in the commercial art world by seeing how a gallery is run and organised as this is something I hope to do in the future.

Artist's Statement

It has been three years since my last solo painting exhibition and eight years since I had an individual show of prints. This time I am combining the two disciplines of art making, allowing me to show both my new prints and recent paintings. I cannot say that "one child is more favourite than the other", as I enjoy both art forms equally. A solo exhibition also gives me an opportunity to produce larger works, which in itself is a challenge.

In this show, my paintings deal with the world outside, the beauty of Tasmanian landscape and the realisation of my seemingly impossible childhood dream of living on the water edge.

The prints represent the world inside, reflecting mood and feelings. It is up to the viewer to interpret these feelings and hopefully the images will speak for themselves.

Note: All prints are limited editions and some of them are unique state, meaning that even though they are produced from the same plate, there will be some variation in the colour and shading of the print and no two will be exactly the same.

It was lovely to see so many people turn up to our opening of 'A Blank Canvas' at such a busy time of year...
and it was certainly beginning to look a lot like Christmas with our black and white walls being transformed into a festive feast for the eyes with eighty colourful canvases showcasing a huge variety of styles, subject matter and mediums. Opening of 'Drawn to the Detail' by Emma McDowell

There were lots of new faces, as well as our lovely regulars, to be seen at the 'opening' of 'Drawn to the Detail' by artist Emma McDowell on Friday evening!
They were all there to join in the celebration of her first solo exhibition. Meticulous is the only word to describe Emma's detailed pencil drawings of old stone buildings which include a 'Storage Door' in Wooby's Lane, Salamanca, 'Steps at St.David's Park', Hobart and the 'Uniting Church' in Ross.
Her exhibition has turned out to be very successful with many works being sold in the first two days!

Artist's Statement

Drawing has been a favourite pastime since I was young and I can still recall that moment when I was around seven years old where I completed a drawing and felt that it would be a lifelong activity. The subject matter was always varied but during my late teens I developed an interest in stone and chose to draw headstones from old cemeteries for my year twelve art exhibition. This was considered a little dark by friends and family but it was simply a connection with the stone masonry and its beauty. I found the textures, layers and shadows cast by stone that had been carved leant itself very well to my style of drawing and allowed for the use of various grades of lead pencil to create depth and differing shades of light.

I spent the following fourteen years focussing on the completion of an Arts Degree and a Diploma of Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing whilst working in a number of interesting jobs. I had not done much drawing over that time but when I moved to Tasmania in 2005 I found myself drawn to the old buildings and noticed a prevalence of Georgian and Colonial architecture which rekindled my love of stone, particularly the convict-carved sandstone. I entered a couple of local art competitions where the themes enabled me to draw sections of the old buildings in Tasmania and so began my desire to continue to capture their beauty on paper.

My drawings for this exhibition pay homage to and are a document of the craftsmanship of these wonderful old buildings and the purpose or intent is to draw people’s attention to the detail and time spent in their construction.

Inka Gallery is pleased to feature Art Space Gallery on our blog. This art co-operative is in the lovely seaside town of St. Ives in Cornwall situated in the south-west of the UK.

The gallery is just a stone's throw from the beach and with the views they get over the harbour, the subject matter would have to be great inspiration for any artist!

Art Space co-operative gallery was established in April 2000, starting life in a small unit off the Promenade, in St Ives. Meetings are held each calendar month and paintings are re-hung and spaces rotated every 4 weeks. You could barely see the walls once everyone poured into the gallery for the opening of 'Cityscapes' on Friday evening! What a fantastic turnout. It was great to see so many people, both local and interstate, dropping in to celebrate the opening of this stunning collection of acrylic paintings of Hobart and its surrounds by Inka Member Rachel Ireland-Meyers

Rachel is contributing 10% of all proceeds from purchased artworks to support the"Cuban Project". This is to help with travel expenses for four local Hobartians to study music and Cuban culture in Havana and Brazil for fourteen months. Artist's Statement
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by people, architecture and landscapes; what intrigues me even more is the interplay between all three. As a theme, 'Cityscapes' is concieved not with the thought of describing any particular place in detail, but with expressing fundamental moods and emotions and as a celebration of the way in which the city of Hobart rests like a glistening jewel against the dominant backdrop of the landscape.

As a studio-based artist, I have several paintings on the go at any one time, and I prefer the exploration of ideas and techniques to take place spontaneously. My first choice is to work in a loose, free and experimental way without a fully preconcieved idea of the finished result. I find the colour and mood of my paintings intuitively during the painting process rather than working them out in advance.

Over time, I have also become convinced that the faster and more spontaniously I work, the better the painting turns out. For me, the creative process is one of change, allowing the subject to reveal itself. My process is to continually test, discard, search and finally exhibit. For example, horizon lines can be minimal, non-existent, dominant, low or high. Realism in any of my paintings is never my goal, “if you want to see a real city/landscape, go and take a photograph and enjoy it.”

My approach to painting is “expressive,” to overstate existing colour and light for the sheer joy of expressing my own feelings for the chosen subject. There is always a “subjective” judgement involved regarding colour interactions. Some combinations appear attractive, others disturbing – but I choose to allow the viewer to make up his or her mind.

I have always been someone who believes in the concept of “value adding,” and have chosen to offer 10% of all the proceeds of purchased artworks to support what is called the “Cuban Project.” This is a fundraising endeavour to assist four local Hobartians to travel to Cuba for what will be an experience of a lifetime. Commencing in February 2012, Elias Solis, Luis Aburto, Maggie Abraham and Violeta Solis will study both Cuban culture and music for one year in Havana, and a further two months of Latin percussion in Brazil. Together they will develop not only as young adults, but also develop their passion and skills as musicians. Importantly, upon their return to Hobart, their goal is to share their knowledge, their experiences, and musical talents with the broader Hobart community.

All money raised will go towards a cumulative fund to support the group with living and learning expenses while in Havana (Cuba) and Salvador(Brazil).

In just a few days time, our gallery transforms into the micro world of digital photography with amazing translucent images of microscopic algae, some suspended in perspex and others framed. This is Liz Salt's first solo exhibition with us and we look forward to the 'opening' this coming Friday, 21st October at 5.30pm. All welcome!

Artist's Statement

Diatoms, also known as Bacillariophyta, are mostly unicellular microscopic algae found in both marine and freshwater habitats and they exist either singly or in colonies. They may be free-floating or attached to plankton and submerged materials and are also found in sediment deposits on river beds and ocean floors.

Diatoms 2

Their cell wall or frustule is constructed primarily of silica in the form of two separate overlapping shells which have either radial or bilateral symmetry and many are highly decorative. Diatoms provide the primary food source for aquatic micro-organisms; they play a major role in supplying oxygen to the atmosphere and serve as indicators of water quality and environmental change both past and present.

My photographs were taken initially from portions of microscope slides provided by the Botany Department of the University of Tasmania and have subsequently been manipulated using various digital techniques to enhance their translucent beauty and intricate silica shell formations.

The purpose of the transparent bubbles is to recreate the aquatic environment with its hidden realm of wondrously varied diatoms and to evoke the constant changes of light, colour and water movement by the gentle rotation of the discs.

Diatoms 5

The framed photographs reference the development of early microscopy in the Victorian era and the use of diatoms to test the resolution of the microscope lens. During this era some commercial mounters creating exhibition slides of manually arranged diatom specimens forming intricate patterns and shapes. Subsequently, I was inspired to create my own arrangements using modern digital technology to recreate the interweaving forms that appear to dance in endless repetititve formations.

An interview with new Inka Member Kate Piekutowski

We would like to welcome Kate Piekutowski to Inka Gallery! She recently joined Inka three weeks ago and in that short time she has proved to be a very popular artist! We wish her continued success as a member and look forward to seeing all her exciting new work arrive on the shelves.

What made you choose to become a member of Inka Gallery?

I think what really made me want to become a member of Inka was because I wanted to be a part of an artistic community. I really love being around people that enjoy the same passions and I think Inka is the perfect opportunity to both sell works whilst being in a wonderful and artistic environment.

What is your background and how did you get started?
I have always been interested in art. I started off doing a lot of drawing and painting and then I came across printmaking. I find etching a beautiful medium to work with because it is both expressive and emotive. I have nearly completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in printmaking and I believe that this experience has helped me to reveal my own identity.

Which other artists and areas of life inspire your artwork?
Other artists that inspire me are many of the renaissance painters. Artists such as Da Vinci, although they were painters, did many sketches through the etching medium. These proofs are so beautiful and detailed and it has really encouraged my drawing skills. More contemporary artists include photographer Rafael Goldchain, Cindy Sherman and printer Jazmina Cininas. These artists all deal with self-portraiture and especially Cininas has been a huge influence as she also looks at her European heritage.

What is your favourite subject matter and medium?
I predominantly use etching as my medium. This is a process by making marks on a metal plate. I find it a particularly beautiful process because traditionally it was an emotive medium used to document history. Francisco Goya was a great example of this as he was documenting the war and Spain’s connections to France during the revolution.

Do you have other creative talents besides producing artworks?
Apart from my love for printmaking, I also make jewellery, cards and I also do a lot of craft things such as sewing and knitting. I find when I am not doing one arty thing I am always doing the other! I find as an artist, that you never stop and have a break from doing art, it’s something that is constant and I think it really defines you.

What do you hope to gain by being a part of Inka Gallery?
Through Inka, I hope to gain some experience in the business/arts industry. I also hope to create new friendships and contacts that take an interest in arts. In doing so, I am very much looking forward to being a part of an artistic community.

Bids of $300 and over may be registered at Inka Gallery during the exhibition. The proud owner of this quirky pastel drawing will not only be giving these two little cats a good home, but will also be helping out in a bigger way, as all proceeds will be going to this very worthy organisation.

The Innocents

Artist's Statement

A cat is a great companion in the studio and of course many artists and writers have used the cat as their subject matter. In the artist’s studio there is bound to be a sunny spot for them to curl up in, and if a distraction is needed, a crumpled piece of rejected art work can be shredded or pounced on. Cats make very good life drawing models when you need to hone your quick sketching skills, or maybe just need to loosen up a bit before tackling your latest “masterpiece in progress”.

Sphyxy

The drawings in this exhibition are mostly comical portraits of cats that have been a part of my life. From the Ginger ‘Sphyxy’ who was my first cat as a child, through to Black ‘Max’ the feral that visits me now when it suits him. There is also ‘Silas’ the Burmese who is my constant companion now, and ‘Zooey’ the black cat that spent 20 years with me.

Anyone that has lived with cats will recognise their penchant for finding the most warm and comfortable place to sleep. This usually means on the bed or under the covers next to a warm human body. Cats have an uncanny knack of knowing when you are sick or feeling a bit down and need comforting. Stroke a cat and your stress levels are lowered. Cats are quite happy to spend all day in bed with you, and will also let you know when it is time for you to get out of bed.

Felines and females have a special simpatico. Women that choose a cat as a pet over a dog have to overcome a lot of bad press. Being a single female of a certain age and owning a cat is seen by some people as being a bit sad. Is it a child substitute “fur child”, or maybe a partner substitute? If you have more than one cat the label of, “Crazy cat lady” that collects strays, comes to mind.

I like to think females empathise with the way cats are just happy to live in the moment. You can’t make a cat do what it doesn’t want to do. We admire their independent nature, but they also have the endearing ability to nurture.

A female friend said to me once that, a man that likes cats can’t be all bad. I think this goes both ways as cats are usually a pretty good judge of character. I think if you are male and cats like you then you must be ok. You can’t fake it with a cat, they are not easily bribed. You are either a cat person or not, there’s no in between. There will always be a special bond that exists between females and cats; this exhibition is a celebration of that bond.

Entitled 'The Lost History', Inka Gallery is proud to present this nostalgic exhibition of framed and unframed works. Read a little about the artist's history and the technique that has influenced her...

The Lost History
This technique of printing was perfected by American Artist Robert Rauschenberg in the 1960’s. I am interested in history and our own personal pasts – what makes us who we are. We carry our past with us constantly, like a second skin, and in turn are both comforted and haunted by it.
The printing technique offers a faded, disintegrated quality and my images are of things that no longer exist. The house my father inherited from his Grandfather which last year burnt to the ground. A piece of chintz from my Grandmother’s couch, the last pieces of china inherited from my Great Grandmother. All are references to time passing and a world that is vanishing.
The work is printed on rice paper which has its own transient qualities.

An interview with Inka Member Rachel Ireland-Meyers

What made you choose to become a member of Inka Gallery?
I became a member of Inka Gallery in July 2010 and it has been a fantastic experience. I joined largely because of the diversity of artists, all of whom produce a varied array of artworks. In addition, Inka Gallery is well positioned at Salamanca; is professionally run; and a wonderful community to be part of.

What is your background and how did you get started?
I was born and raised in New Zealand, and was fortunate to have two amazing and creative grandparents. My grandfather was a prolific painter, musician, and was fluent in 8 languages, spending much of his youth travelling throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Likewise, my grandmother was multi-talented and an award winning garden and landscape designer. Over time I became interested in the commercial art industry, and trained mainly in Graphic Art and Lithography.

I moved to Australia in the late 1980s and continued to work in the industry in Sydney. However, with a move to Melbourne, my focus changed and I trained and worked in Finance and Marketing. In the early 1990s, I moved to Fremantle, Western Australia and worked in the areas of community development; spent numerous years at University; and worked as a researcher and as an educator. My time in Western Australia was wonderful and accompanied by friendships with artist, John Anthony and members of the multi-talented Juniper family, among others.
In late 2006, I moved to Tasmania, with my husband and four children, and on a part-time basis picked up my rather “dusty” art brushes. In many ways I have come full-circle – becoming a member of the Inka community.

Which other artists and areas of life inspire your artwork?
There are numerous artists that I find inspiring: Robert Hannaford and David Bromley (SA); James Gleeson, Elizabeth Cummings, Jenny Sages, Michael Johnson and John Olsen (NSW); and Western Australian artist and sculptor Robert Juniper.

What is your favourite subject matter and medium?
The changing seasons in Tasmania remain one of my main focuses, largely due to the amazing colours they bring to the landscape as a whole. I work mainly with acrylics and/or oils on canvas and mixed media too. I adore gardens, and often forage for various flowers that I might like to paint. I also love the forms and shapes in the landscape, and those throughout the city of Hobart and surrounds.

Describe your workspace and your creative process?
My studio space is at home. It is a large space, light and bright and a great place to work. My general love of both primary and secondary colours, often dictates what I will or won’t paint. By nature I am expressive, and this is obvious with many of my works. I recently greeted a customer who said my paintings gave her a “sense of hope and joy” and perhaps no one can ask for a better compliment than that.

What do you enjoy the most about being a member of Inka?
Over the past year, I have had a good deal success with many of my paintings being sold. Many works are in private collections in New Zealand, Australia, the US and the UK. It has been a privilege to meet everyone, and it is particularly nice to be part of a community where everyone contributes to make Inka Gallery what it is.

Rachel will be featuring on the "Black Wall" at the end of September and will be having her first solo exhibition with us later in the year so we'll keep you posted!

Not only were we provided with a wonderful exhibition of watercolours, we were also given musical entertainment as Rodney Alexander's exhibition opening got underway last Friday evening.
As well as being a talented artist, Rodney is a talented musician too, accompanying the beautiful voice of partner Hiedi Limebeer who sang a few of their original compositions.

Rodney James Alexander was born in 1976 and grew up on yachts sailing the east coast of Australia with his family. From a very early age he was drawing and painting inspired by the world around him. His formative education was via correspondence schooling, drawing playing guitar and the experiences of a youth spent sailing the oceans.

In 1996, Rodney moved ashore to Newcastle, NSW and studied fine arts. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in 2000 and began working as a commissioned pastel artist. He followed up his fine arts studies with further tertiary studies in graphic design.
Being ruled by the right side of his brain, Rodney is also a working musician/composer writing and performing with his Celtic inspired singer/songwriter partner Hiedi Limbeer. In late 2009, they released their most commercial CD "Carry Me Away" which the ABC Radio National described as "a real find".
In early 2010, Rodney and Hiedi settled in the beautiful Southern Channel region of Tasmania which has become the inspiration for his watercolour flights of fancy and native wildlife collection "Chromascura".

Artist's Statement
I strive to create something that is either beautiful, thought provoking or both. I am happy making a living doing something I love without having too much impact on our fragile world.

You have been with Inka for nearly two years now. What made you choose to become a member of Inka Gallery?

I was looking for a gallery with a relaxed atmosphere, a place where I can sell my unframed work and so that the customers can buy original art at an affordable price.

I started with an Adult Ed class in 2000 and it developed from there.

What or who inspires your artwork?

A printmaking course at Tafe inspired me and that’s where I got to learn about Jorg Schimeisser and Barbara Hanrahan’s work and loved what they did.

Do you have a favourite subject and medium?

My favourite is printmaking in particular linocuts

Besides printmaking I also like oil painting, pastels and making clam shell boxes.

Artist's Statement:

My continuing love affair with the stage and my years of involvement with the theatre, designing and producing all manner of ‘stage-crafts’; sets, costumes and props – has led me, quite naturally - I feel, to produce works that are richly embellished and highly theatrical.

I also abhor waste…and that passion has helped me achieve a faux richness (inspired too, by Medieval, Gothic and Byzantine masters) by using found and discarded objects within the criteria of Collage and Assemblage.

For years I’ve collected dozens of pieces of fabric, buttons, lace, china, ephemera, jewellery, post-cards, calendars, stamps, shells, insects, braid and brochures.

This Isle, Tasmania, has been my muse; instrumental in enriching my creative talent. May I continue to be so inspired.

Ann will be displaying some of her stunning landscapes on canvas on the "black wall" in just a few weeks but in the meantime, we can show you a sample of some of her works in her interview below...

How did you find out about Inka and what attracted to the gallery?
I found out about Inka by visiting around in the area and popping in. I like to visit Salamanca occasionally to see new exhibitions.

How long have you been creating art and how did you get started?
I have been painting for a long time. It was the only thing I really had confidence in at school. I went on to study art at college, then University, and then do an art based post-graduate course in teaching. I have always painted. I lived in Sydney for nine years, working part-time, painting mostly portraits, and exhibited and sold my work in pubs, cafes and artist-run galleries. Since living in Tasmania, I have been painting landscape an I have once again started to exhibit my work.

Black Beauty 1

Do you have a favourite subject or medium?

Currently I am absorbing many new ideas, but I am building up a solid body of work around my landscapes. I feel a lot freer now to paint different subjects and to use different mediums as my creative interests grow. I love many forms of craft work and I am really inspired by artists who use recycled materials. I usually paint in acrylic or oil, depending on whether I am seeking accuracy of if I am happy to swim in the flow of the colour and texture. My landscapes also alternates between realism and abstraction.

Rockpool Reflection 1

How would you describe your style of art?
My main focus is on what I call ‘Rockpool Reflections’. I am trying to create the ultimate balance between telling the story of the rockpool reflection and having a free-flowing play of paint upon the surface of the canvas.
I use delicate colour changes, but I still like to tell the dramatic story of chiaroscuro. I like surprising and muted forms, but I still like a strong structure in my paintings.
I am definitely inspired by the beauty of the Tasmanian landscape. Everything wonderful part of nature I consider to be a gift to my eyes and I marvel at the creation of it.
Artists I like are: Monet, Gustav Klimt, Hundertwasser, Matisse. I seem to get something out of seeing most other artists whose work I see locally and on my travels.

What do you hope to gain from being a member of Inka Gallery?
I am happy to have somewhere to present and sell my work. I am hoping to get to know other local artists and share and learn from their stories and adventures. I hope that Inka will be a stepping stone to other galleries. I think its really important to be involved in something, whether it’s putting your paintings up at a local craft fair, cafe, or artist-run initiative. There’s no point in painting your heart away if no-ones going to see it!

An interview with new Inka Member Lisa Maroney

What made you choose to become a member of Inka Gallery?

I was introduced to Inka by Chris Kerruish, and was immediately impressed with the quality of the work from the members and the professional presentation of the gallery.

How long have you been creating art and how did you get started?

I have always been creative, and have a strong need to create. I have taught fine embroidery for 20 years, and stitch with a group one afternoon a week. Although embroidery is a different medium to painting and drawing, many of the same colour and design principles overlap. I was a keen painter in my school days, and have picked up the brushes again in the last ten years. I am presently studying Fine Art at UTAS.

Describe your workspace and your creative process

Inspiration comes from a of variety sources. It may be from something I have grown in the garden, or seen in my travels, and an idea is triggered in my mind, I start to sketch roughly and then narrow down exactly what I want to portray.

I have a warm and sunny studio at the end of the verandah at the front of my house. The natural light and comfortable surroundings help the creative process enormously. Rufus, our Cairn Terrier is never far away, watching at all times.

Do you have a favourite subject and medium?

My favourite subject to work with is usually something from nature. Flowing forms of plants feature often in my work, and I often add bugs and insects for interest. Usually, my favourite subject is the one I’m currently thinking about, and that could be places, animals or nature. Oil Paint is my favourite medium, but I also use acrylic, watercolour, ink and pastels at times.

Do you have other creative talents besides your art?

Embroidery mentioned earlier has been a large part of my creativity.

Photography helps my painting, and gardening and cooking also feature in my everyday life.

What do you hope to gain from being a member of Inka Gallery?
I am very pleased to have joined Inka, and hope to gain satisfaction from selling my works through the gallery and working with the other artists within the co-op.

Lisa is currently sharing the "black" wall in the gallery with our other new member Julian Halls and has on display some beautiful works which will remain there until the 6th of July (see a sneak peak of artworks in previous post below!) Lisa also has several small works on canvas board displayed on our white shelves so please come in and have a look!

What a very chilly Hobart evening it was but it didn't deter people leaving the warmth of their cosy homes to come and celebrate the "Opening" of Alfredo Meloni's exhibition of Italian Landscapes...

...Exhibition concludes Wednesday, 6th July.

Inka Gallery is proud to present an exhibition of works in oil on canvas by Alfredo Meloni.
Alfredo was born in Rome, Italy in 1935 and emigrated to Tasmania in the early 1960's.
With a background in film-making, writing and art, Alfredo Meloni is a man of many talents.
Today, as an artist, he works from his Studio-Gallery, producing and selling watercolours and oil paintings of Italian and Tasmanian landscapes. He also makes copies of Classical Renaissance Art, often selling back to Italy, in the proverbial case of sending "coals" back to Newcastle.

We hope you can join us at his opening this Friday, 17th June at 5.30pm

An interview with new member Julian Halls

What made you choose to become a member of Inka Gallery?
It was on the recommendation of a former member, Carolyn Audet, who had many positive things to say about the structure and efficient way in which Inka is run. Also, Inka is well situated with a good passing parade of (hopefully) cashed up art lovers.

How long have you been creating art and how did you get started?
Both my parents were artists, so you could say I've always been 'at it'.

Do you have a favourite subject and medium?
As far as my subject matter is, I keep returning again and again to the imagined portrait. These days I paint in acrylics for health reasons and because it dries quickly.

What or who inspires your artwork?

I find inspiration for my work from a broad range of artists, both early and contemporary. I look at as many artworks as possible so as to be better informed. If anything, I've constantly been drawn to the Sydney artists of the 40's and 50's whom Robert Hughes, the arts writer, dubbed "The Sydney Charm School". And very charming they are.

What other creative talents do you have besides your artworks?

I'm a published author with many years experience writing for television, the stage and radio.

What do you hope to gain from being a member of Inka Gallery?

I think Inka is ideally placed in Salamanca and can offer me a wider audience than other larger galleries. I also like the idea of having some of my art permanently on display and being able to talk about it to customers when it is my turn to 'sit' the gallery.

We look forward to seeing some of Julian's artworks featuring on our "black wall" in a week's time.

Opening of 'The Ladies of Colour' by The South Hobart Art Group

It didn't take long before our cosy little gallery was filled to capacity with artists, their families, friends and passersby on a very chilly Hobart Friday evening.

They were all there to celebrate the opening of an exhibition showcasing a diverse range of artworks produced by seven talented members of The South Hobart Art Group...

....and we even had to spill outside at one point!

If you didn't get a chance to come along to the Opening, the exhibition runs for three weeks concluding Wednesday, 15th June.
